Cwmni Da is celebrating this week with the news that three of its productions have won awards at the Celtic Media Festival. Nadolig Deian a Loli took the honours in the Children’s Program category, Cor Digidol Rhys Meirion in the Entertainment category and Huw Jack Brassington’s 47 Copa won the Sports Documentary category.
In addition to the seven nominations and three awards at the Celtic Media Festival, the employee-owned company has also received two nominations in the BAFTA Cymru Competition.
Deian and Loli adds another BAFTA Cymru nomination to add to its long list of awards, including Celtic Media Festival awards, BAFTA Cymru wins in 2017, 2020 and a Highly Commended Award at the London Broadcast Awards in 2019.
The show’s producer Angharad Elen, said, “It’s great to see Deian and Loli win a Celtic Festival Award and get a BAFTA Cymru nomination for the fifth year running. It’s proof that the series is going from strength to strength.”
Martin Thomas, Producer and Director of Deian and Loli was also delighted. “Well, that’s fantastic news! This BAFTA nomination may be even more of a feat this year given that this special episode was filmed over a 5-day period in a Covid bubble under very challenging circumstances. The dedication of the cast and crew are all key to the success of the program and we’re delighted that their efforts have been recognised.”
Barry ‘Archie Jones’ has received a BAFTA Cymru nomination in the ‘Writer’ category for the S4C comedy series Rybish. Archie is shortlisted alongside Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery for Gangs of London (Sky Atlantic), and Russell T Davies for It’s a Sin (Channel 4).
“It’s surreal to see our small production shoulder to shoulder and such huge series right there, and great to see comedy writing being recognized”, he said.
“Knowing that we had the best possible actors and crew for the project was crucial, and it was a real pleasure to see the scripts come to life.
Thank you to S4C and Cwmni Da for giving us space to experiment and time to develop the idea properly and to BAFTA Cymru for appreciating the work.”
Presenter Alex Jones will present the BATA Cymru digital ceremony on Sunday 24 October, 19.00 GMT across BAFTA social channels
