Côr Digidol Rhys Meirion

S4C | 1 x 60minutes

Rhys meirion conducts a digital social choral experiment.

The Côr-ona Facebook public group led by Catrin Angharad Jones has attracted almost 17,000, with hundreds of individuals contributing videos and proving that it was possible to socialise remotely all through the medium of Welsh.

In this programme, Rhys Meirion conducts a social experiment by bringing people from far and near to enjoy the thrill of singing together on a laptop in the kitchen, iPad in the shed or PC in the attic.

We see Rhys connect over the phone, through the window of the house and the computer screen, we hear the stories of the nurse who continues to work hard against the virus; the scattered family; the internet music teacher and the vulnerable individuals trying to cope with the process of self-isolation.

Rhys Meirion said: “What Catrin has achieved on the Côr-ona Facebook page is a phenomenon!

“It proves that we Welsh people see our culture as a lifeline, and shows that singing is something that everyone can be a part of, from the very youngest children to all older people in our society. It’s great that technology can now help us socialise.”
