Mari Griffith looks at the painters and the paintings inspired by Snowdonia
For over 250 years, artists have been drawn to Snowdonia in search of inspiration. The scenery on offer had everything a painter could wish for – majesticpeaks, crags, lakes, and glens – an unspoilt wilderness that demanded to be placed on canvas.
Writer and art historian Mari Griffith puts on her walking boots to visit some of the key locations in Snowdonia. Looking at the painters who went there, and the paintings they were inspired to make, and using the works to examine our evolving relationship with this very special landscape.
