Two Cwmni Da productions have been nominated for this years BAFTA Cymru Awards.
Sion Aaron and Tim Lyn have been shortlisted in the Factual Directors category for Eirlys, Dementia and Tim, while Deian a Loli has been nominated once again as best Childrens’ Programme.
Deian a Loli is a previous winner of the award and has received a BAFTA Cymru nomination every year since its conception in 2016. This latest nomination stands testement to the long-running appeal of the S4C programme, which has recently sold to Brittany and is now filming its 5th series.
“We are absolutely delighted to be nominated again this year,” said the show’s co-producer, Nerys Lewis. “The episode nominated is the Christmas special, written by Manon Wyn Jones, and directed by Martin Thomas, which was such a joy to film. We have a extremely small production team, but every single member of the team throws their heart and soul into it. We are very proud to say that every aspect of the show – including the outstanding special effects – continues to be produced in-house at Cwmni Da.”
The documentary Eirlys, Dementia and Tim, produced and directed for S4C’s DRYCH series by Sion Aaron and Tim Lyn tells the moving story of two old friends who meet again after following very different paths in life. The film is also on the shortlist for the 2020 Grierson Awards – the biggest event in the TV documentary calendar in the UK.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been nominated,” said Sion. “Tim Lyn and Eirlys Smith tell an incredible story, both moving and humorous. Dementia touches a lot of people’s lives and we tried our best to portray the reality facing people like Eirlys who lives with early onset Alzheimers.”
The 2020 British Academy Cymru Awards digital ceremony will take place on 25 October at 19:00 GMT on the BAFTA Cymru social channels. It will be hosted for the first time by Alex Jones.
